Website Redesign Website & Branding
The Project
Harveys Fertilizer has served growers across eastern North Carolina since 1871, from its home base in Kinston. Today the company runs seed, fertilizer, crop protection, seed treatment, agronomy, and seed conditioning divisions across more than thirty locations in North Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia. The website needed to carry all of that with the same weight the name carries in the field.
The rebuild had a clear list of jobs. Put every product and its documentation within a click of the home page. Give each location its own page with real local information. Present the company’s history in a way that rewards scrolling. And do it on a platform the Harveys team can maintain themselves. We built the site on WordPress with a custom component kit designed for agriculture and for a brand with this much history behind it.
What We Built
The site is built from a custom component kit made for Harveys, with each piece designed for a specific job. Here is what visitors get.
Product index. All 51 Harveys products across seven categories live in a single searchable index laid out like a seed catalog ledger: hairline rules, leader lines, and one row per product. Each row links to the product label and, where one exists, the technical sheet. Categories expand and collapse, so a grower looking for a specific soybean variety finds it in seconds.
Divisions. The company’s service areas are presented as full-bleed photo cards, one per division, each opening to a dedicated page. Seed conditioning through Cashwell and Jones, a Harveys company, gets its own place in the lineup.
Heritage timeline. The company’s history plays out as a scroll-driven timeline, with each era revealing as the reader moves down the page.
Locations map. A custom vector map of the Southeast, drawn for this site rather than pulled from a mapping service, pins every Harveys location across North Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia. A location list beneath the map holds hours, addresses, and contact details for each branch.
Location pages. Every one of the 31 locations has its own page with copy written for that community and the services that matter most there, so a grower near Scotland Neck lands on a page about their branch.
Mission, Purpose, and Core Values. Three pages became one, structured along a vine that grows down the page: the mission at the first stage, purpose at the second, values at the third, with the vine terminating in roots.
Seed field. As visitors scroll, soybean seeds fall and gather at the bottom of the page. The effect is built in lightweight WebGL, runs on any device, and steps aside automatically on shorter pages.
Grower portal access. A utility strip above the main navigation keeps Grower360 and employee login one click away on every page.
The Identity
The direction pairs a classic serif with a clean workhorse sans, a combination that reads as established without feeling dated. Headings set in Libre Caslon Text carry the heritage; Source Sans 3 handles everything else and stays legible on a phone in a truck cab. Both are self-hosted for speed.
A custom icon set covers the crops eastern North Carolina actually grows: corn, soybean, cotton, tobacco, peanut, sweet potato, and wheat. The icons appear across division pages and the product index, giving the site a visual language that belongs to this region.

Hosting and Maintenance
Apex hosts and maintains the Harveys site under an annual care plan that covers updates, security, backups, and a monthly allowance of development hours for changes as the business needs them. New products, new locations, and new divisions go live without a rebuild.
Web Design for First Choice
Everything on the site was designed around the way growers and dealers actually visit it: quickly, often on a phone, usually looking for one product, one location, or one number. Pages load light, the index answers in a few keystrokes, and the history is there for anyone who wants to scroll.
